Full-Time Substitute Teacher - Eisenhower Elementary
Job Description
Purpose: To create an encouraging learning environment for students while their regular Teacher is absent, the Full-Time Substitute Teacher will need to effectively manage and instruct the class from attendance to tidying up the classroom after the students have left. To respond to students' individual needs and abilities, the Full-Time Substitute Teacher must work closely with other staff and the administration of the District. The Full-Time Substitute Teacher creates a positive learning environment to facilitate students' personal, social, and intellectual development in the absence of the regular Teacher.
Reports To: Director of Human Resources & Building Principal
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Salary: Daily Rate $225.00 per day under a Classified Employee Contract
Required Qualifications:
- Must hold a valid Kansas Emergency Substitute Teaching License
- Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the District Office (after an employment offer is made)
- Basic computer skills with a preference for Google Classroom and/or similar instructional platform experience
- Articulate and professional written and verbal communication skills
- Bachelor's degree or higher, preferably in education
- Strong English verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to lead and instruct students of all ages
- General knowledge of several subjects
- Ability to adapt plans to specific classrooms
- Flexibility and critical-thinking skills
- Patience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Have a valid Kansas Teaching License or Kansas Standard Substitute Teaching License
Essential Functions:
- Follows lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students
- Manages the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions, and maintain a positive learning environment
- Adapts teaching methods to fit the needs of each student
- Supervises and instructs students onsite, inside and outside of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground, and in the cafeteria
- Provides bus/car loop supervision
- Provides onsite and remote assignments based on the available lesson plans
- Facilitates the personal, social, and intellectual development of students
- Maintains a positive learning environment and responds to the individual educational needs of students
- Ensures all activities conform to District guidelines
- Communicates and works effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district community
- Reacts to change in an instructional and productive manner and handles other tasks as assigned
- Works with technology/computer systems
- Supervises, directs, and motivates students
- Model commitment and dedication to work
- Works independently and without supervision and completes work in an efficient manner
- For long-term substitutes: develop lesson plans and assignments consistent with the regular Teacher's past lesson plans
