Job Description

 

Reports To:    Building Principal and Director of Special Services

 

FLSA Status:  Exempt

 

Required Qualifications:     

  • Master’s Degree or Education Specialist Degree in School Psychology
  • Valid Kansas Teaching Certificate with School Psychologist endorsement
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the District Office (after an employment offer is made)

Essential Functions:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

 

Assessment and Interpretation:

  • Assist in the early identification of students’ learning, social-emotional, and behavioral needs
  • Select and administer assessments appropriate to the focus of concern and according to NASP professional standards
  • Select and administer assessments with consideration of the characteristics of the student or group of students (i.e., ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic considerations)
  • Assist in identifying factors in the learning environment that may affect a student and determine the degree of impact
  • Integrate data from assessment procedures and develop hypotheses relative to instructional and educational programming and program eligibility and placement
     

Consultation and communication:

  • Effectively communicate knowledge and ideas orally and in writing to students, parents, and school personnel
  • Maintain effective interpersonal relationships and communication in the professional setting
  • Consult with teachers, other school personnel, and parents about ways to facilitate learning and adjustment for individual and groups of students
  • Consult with teachers and other school personnel on classroom, school, and/or building needs
  • Provide liaison and coordination between the school system and other relevant agencies to facilitate services for students and families
  • Consult and communicate information and education in the application of learning theory, child development, and other psychological principles to school personnel and parents
     

Program planning and development:

  • Assist teachers in the planning, development, and evaluation of Individual Education Plans to meet identified learning and adjustment needs
  • Assist teachers in identifying research-based strategies to maximize student learning and engagement
  • Assist school personnel in analyzing, interpreting, and disseminating data and evaluation results
  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings for initial and three-year re-evaluations.
  • Coordinate and facilitate pre-staffing meetings for initial and three-year re-evaluations

  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods
  • Ability to enter data into a computer, to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone
  • Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone
  • Physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and sit on the floor for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to climb stairs, walk and reach overhead

 

Terms of Employment: At-will employment. A 193-day contract under the Negotiated Agreement  

 

Evaluation:   Performance evaluations in accordance with the Negotiated Agreement
