Job Description

 

Purpose: The purpose of the Grounds Assistant position is to maintain the physical exterior of district facilities and accompany grounds in a condition of operating excellence, safety, cleanliness, and aesthetic attractiveness so that full educational use of the facilities may be made at all times.

 

Reports to: Director of Transportation and Maintenance  

 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

 

Required Qualifications:     

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License to operate any USD 207 vehicles
  3. General knowledge of lawn care.
  4. Display good judgment and flexibility to change.
  5. Ability to work in all types of weather.
  6. Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the District Office (after an employment offer is made).

Preferred Qualifications:     

  1. Class C Commercial Drivers’ license with passenger endorsements or desire to obtain Class C Commercial Drivers’ license.

 

Essential Functions:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily

  1. Examine school grounds on a regular basis for needed repair and maintenance.
  2. Ability to mow grass, care of trees and shrubs, pick up paper and other debris, clean out fences, clean parking lots and driveways, remove excess sand, remove weeds from sidewalks and curbing, and snow removal.
  3. Ability to communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community.
  4. Follow a regular plan of preventative maintenance as established by the District.
  5. Ability to operate all equipment and machinery safely and appropriately as necessary.
  6. Assist in maintaining District-owned vehicles and equipment in addition to following the establish preventative maintenance plan for all district equipment.
  7. Assist other maintenance and grounds personnel as needed.
  8. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  9. Ability to work to implement the vision and mission of the District.
  10. Regular and consistent attendance at work.

General Responsibilities

  1. Ability to be responsible for other necessary maintenance work through the District.

  3. Ability to promote the safety, health, and comfort of students on school grounds.
  4. Ability to pick up trash and other debris as necessary from all District properties.
  5. Ability to maintain all grounds equipment in the proper work order.
  6. Ability to perform scheduled maintenance and minor reports, along with cleanliness.
  7. Ability to respond to information request in a cooperative, courteous, and timely manner.
  8. Ability to perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as directed by the administration.

  1. Requires physical exertion to move manually, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or material regularly.
  2. Ability to manually lift at least 60 pounds.
  3. Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  4. Ability to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.
  5. Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous interruptions.
  6. Must work in and around dust, fumes, and odors.
  7. Ability to hear and understand speech at normal indoors, outdoors and on the telephone
  8. Ability to enter data into a computer, to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids

 

Terms of Employment: At will employment. 12-month (2,080 hours) position.

 

Evaluation:   Performance evaluations in accordance with the Board’s policy and the Classified Employee Handbook.
